Description
Français : Portrait du Prince Alfred, Duc d'Edimbourg de Saxe-Cobourg et Gotha, Monsieur John Brander et son épouse Titana (ou Titaua), Madame Moetia Salmon, 1870. Tirage albuminé monté sur carton. 6,5 x 10 cm Le Prince Alfred (1844-1900), fils de la Reine Victoria, arriva le 20 juin 1870 à Tahiti à bord de la Frégate H.M.S. Galatea. Cette visite donna lieu à de nombreuses cérémonies. Après une visite officielle à la Reine Pomaré IVet au Gouvernement français, le jeune Prince se rendit à l'Observatoire du Capitaine Cook, à la Cascade de Fatna et aux fêtes données par Monsieur John Brander (1814-1877), négociant écossais installé à Tahiti en 1851. Les soeurs Titana Brander et Moetia Salmon étaient les nièces de la Reine Pomare IV. Elles ont également été photographiées par Paul Emile Miot à la même époque. Au moment de son départ, le Prince Alfred déclara "Après Londres et Paris, Tahiti est le lieu que je quitte avec le plus de regrets.".
