English: Several dozen activists protested in central London on Saturday 24 February 2022 against Britain's arms exports and logistical support for Saudi Arabia's ongoing air campaign against Yemen which continues to target civilian infrastructure. The UN estimates that by 2021, 377,000 people have been killed by the war - either on the front line or from air raids (about 40%) or as a result of hunger, malnutrition and disease caused by the conflict (about 60%).
During 2021 a child under five died approximately every nine minutes because of the conflict. www.france24.com/en/live-news/20211123-yemen-war-will-hav... www.aljazeera.com/news/2021/11/23/un-yemen-recovery-possi... As of January 2022, the UK government had officially signed off on £6.9 billion of arms sales to Saudi Arabia since the start of Saudi Arabia's bombing campaign in 2015, but according to a recent investigation the actual figure is believed to be around three times higher at over £20 billion and much of that has been used in the conflict, including, according to the Campaign Against the Arms Trade, 'Typhoon and Tornado aircraft, Paveway bombs and Brimstone and Stormshadow missiles' caat.org.uk/homepage/stop-arming-saudi-arabia/uk-arms-to-... |
