English: Public footpath to Cossall. This is taken from the footpath at the bottom of 1197184 which is accessed from the Nottingham Canal via 1194675. The line of the footpath crossing the nearest (ploughed) field can just be made out as the slightly lighter band. See 1197214 which was taken from the other side of the far field, which shows this muddy section highlighted by facing into the sun. It crosses a narrow stream before joining a grassy field margin on its way to rejoin the canal and cross it by 1197218 before traversing a field and track before reaching Cossall. The canal, in following the 60m contour, encloses these fields within a pronounced bend and is behind the viewpoint as well as just beyond the hedgerow in the middle distance. On this walk along the Nottingham Canal Nature Reserve my intention was to cut across the farmland within bend in the canal and return to my starting point at the Cossall Road car park along the towpath. Unfortunately, not having suitable boots with me on this occasion, my plan was thwarted by this very muddy section through the ploughed field. Moral of this tale? Be prepared for all conditions!
