| Description |
English: Purfleet RSPB Reserve Not so many years ago Paramount Studios wanted to build a theme park in this area on one of the few bits of Thames marsh left. Thankfully the cost of shifting the large amount of unexploded WW2 bombs was a factor in making the project unviable. During WW2 dummy lights and fires were lit in the Essex marshes to decoy enemy bombers. The soft mud caused many bombs not to explode. This marsh is now retired as an army range and has recently become an RSPB Nature Reserve, The visitor centre can be seen at 270112 |
