Pvt. Pembroke Scott (CP 970), National Museum of Health and Medicine

Description: Private Pembroke Scott, Company D, 198th Pennsylvania volunteers, shows the wound left from a gunshot to the skull. The wound was received at the battle of the Gravely Run, Virginia on March 29th, 1865. Caption reads: “Gunshot wound of scalp and fract. of outer table. Pembroke Scott Co. D 198th Penna.”

History is on reverse: “Pembroke Scott. Pembroke Scott, age 28, private Co. D. 198th Penn’a Vols., admitted from City Point to Harewood U.S.A. General Hospital, April 2d, wounded by Minnie ball, March 29th 1865, at Gravely Run, Va., ball making a scalp wound three inches in length across left temporal and edge of parietal bones, posterior to ear, fracturing outer table of parietal bone. April 29th, the wound doing well and healing kindly, has had no indication of depression nor concussion. Harewood U.S.A. General Hospital, R.B. Bontecou, Surgeon U.S. Vols., In charge.”
