Español: - Origen: Europa meridional y Asia Menor.
- Etimología: el nombre científico deriva de los vocablos "pyr":fuego y "acantha":espina, recordando el color rojizo de sus espinas. - Arbusto de hoja perenne, normalmente de 1 ó 2 m de altura, pero puede crecer hasta 4 metros. - Corteza de color pardo rojizo, brillante. - Hojas lanceoladas alargadas o elípticas ovadas de 2-4 cm de largo, coriáceas con bordes finamente dentados, de color verde oscuro por la haz, e inicialmente pilosas y verde pálido por el envés. - Flores blancas, en densas inflorescencias umbeliformes de 3-4 cm de diámetro. - Florece a final de primavera o a principios del verano. - Abundantes bayas en otoño que nacen en las ramas maduras. Pueden ser rojas, naranjas o amarillas. |
