Summary

edit
Description
English: Copy of a photograph looking north down Queen Street, showing the east side with a group of men outside the Metropolitan Hotel on the corner of Fort Street (right) and sewer construction work (centre). This is probably the occasion when heavy rain caused the collapse of the diagonal diversion across Queen Street resulting in what the Southern Cross of 15 June 1860 described as a gash 'resembling an earthquake crack'.
