English: In the image you can see and up close-views a holm oak´s branch. This tree is called "Quercus ilex" in a cientific name and it is native to the Mediterranean region.
This species has a lot of applications since antiquity, its wood is very hard so it is used to manufacture pieces that have to withstand high friction in cars, tools, etc. as well as in small hydraulic works and in the construction of pillars or beams. Furthermore, it is an excellent wood to burn and it is used in ranching to feed pigs which give the best hams in Spain.
