Summary edit

Description

The total eclipse of March 29, 2006. Seen from the deck of the Pan Orama from a spot on the centerline of the path of totality, at its closest approach to port at the Eastern tip of Rhodes.

Several sunspots can be seen at about the 10:00 position on what's left of the solar disk. These were easily visible in a pair of image-stabilized binoculars fitted with solar filters, but were almost impossible to see in my viewfinder. This is the best-focused of the partial phase images I have, and the sunspots are clearly distinct spots.

D70s, 500 mm, 1/800 s, f/8, ISO 800. Thousand Oaks Optical Black Polymer solar filter Phoenix 500mm f/8 reflex telephoto

Lightly adjusted in Adobe Camera Raw.
