Description
Español: Matanza (nombre primitivo, en singular) tuvo dos muelles; el primero,construido a partir de 1872, descansaba sobre pilotes de robles maulinos traídos desde el sur en naves de los Hermanos Serdio, dos gallegos a quienes el Estado entregó la concesión para construir un muelle y administrar el puerto. En la foto se advierte uno de esos pilotes de roble; es el pequeño.. Los pilotes altos son de acero; pertenecen al segundo muelle, que se construyó casi superpuesto sobre el muelle anterior, a partir del gobierno del Presiden te Balmaceda, en 1891,
