Picture description Statue of the Roman poet Ovid (43 BC - 17 AC) (inscription: "Sulmo" (= birth place), "Tomis" (= death place), Ovid was exiled to "Tomis" (= Constanța (Romania)) by the Roman Emperor Augustus in the year 8 A.D.). In his honour was inaugurated in Constanța (Romania) in 1887 a monument created by the Italian sculptor Ettore Ferrari (1848-1929). This statue is pictured on the stamp.
