Description
Bird Island is the southern most of four small islands lying on the extensive bank formed between the mouths of the rivers Joombas and Gambia, and is (or was) distinguished by two staffs — one rigged and the other not. Its south end is 9 miles N.N.E. from cape St. Mary, and nearly 2 miles from the shore of the main, thence it trends north-east ward towards the other islands and the coast.
