Italiano: Maschera Dyodyonune - Maschera facciale antropomorfa con volto rattangolare diviso in due metà simmetriche dal lungo setto nasale e occhi triangolari posti sotto fronte aggettante. Sulla sommità si levano orecchie animali lunghe e diritte e tre figure antropomorfe inginocchiate. Superficie deteriorata.
Maschera che rappresenta un guaritore. Questa maschera danza impugnado uno scacciamosche in una mano e tenendo nell'altra un recipiente con sostanze medicamentose. Diversamente dalle altre maschere che si rivolgono al pubblico con la mediazione di un portavoce, questa maschera parla direttamente agli spettatori, consigliandoli su come mantenersi in salute. Secondo uno dei miti dogon questa maschera sarebbe stata inventata per raccogliere lo spirito (nyma) di un guaritore/stregone morto in guerra. Le figure sulla sommità della maschera sono dello stesso tipo delle sculture che si ritrovano sugli altari dogon, dove sono fatte oggetto di offerte sacrificali legate al culto degli antenati. |
