Italiano: Statua - Figura femminile in posizione eretta, con seni in evidenza, braccia in posizione simmetrica che scendono parallele al busto e discoste da esso. Acconciatura, piedi e pube tinti in nero. Collo inanellato. Piedi mancanti (frattura). Figura utilizzata nel culto dei gemelli. Presso gli Ewe del Togo e del Ghana e gli Yoruba del Benin e della Nigeria, in epoca precoloniale la nascita di gemelli era considerata un evento nefasto, un'intrusione dell'animalità nella sfera della riproduzione umana; per questo i gemelli venivano abbandonati riconsegnadoli alla boscaglia da cui si riteneva provenissero. In epoca più recente il significato si è capovolto facendone un segno benaugurante e dando vita a un culto dei gemelli. In caso di morte di uno o di entrambi i gemelli, la madre fa scolpire queste statuette di cui si prende cura, lavandole, vestendole e nutrendole, in quanto depositarie dello spirito dei figli defunti. Alla sua morte verranno trasmesse a una delle figlie. I gemelli conservano comunque un lato oscuro: il culto che si rivolge loro serve a placarne lo spirito.
