Italiano: SERRATURA (KOMBALABALA) composta di tre parti: quella verticale che assume la forma di una figura; quella orizzontale (chiavistello) che si muove avanti e indietro passando per una sezione rettangolare scavata nella parte retrostante dell'elemento verticale e infine la chiave (di metallo o legno) che viene inserita in una parte cava, interna, dell'elemento orizzontale, entro cui cadono dei denti in ferro che garantiscono la chiusura. La serratura assume sembianze antropomorfe grazie alla testa posta sulla sommità.
Le serrature sono poste sulle porte di abitazioni, granai, pollai. Le serrature, così come altre sculture lignee, sono create dai fabbri bamana e possono avere forma astratta o figurativa, sia antropomorfa che zoomorfa (lucertola d'acqua e di terra, coccodrillo, tartaruga, pipistrello). In passato - come sostiene James Imperato (1972) - gli animali erano totem famigliari (gné) che garantivano protezione al gruppo e che non potevano essere uccisi, mangiati o toccati. La presenza di una figura femminile sulla serratura doveva garantire la fedeltà del marito alle proprie mogli. In tempi più recenti la scelta del soggetto è in gran parte stata lasciata alle preferenze dello scultore. L'avanzata dell'Islam e la diffusione di serrature moderne ha portato al declino di questa produzione. |
