Italiano: STATUA NKISHI - Figura antropomorfa in posizione eretta con braccia che scendono aderenti al busto per poi cingere il ventre prominente. Nella pancia è presente una cavità destinata a raccogliere la ""medicina"". Il volto presenta il tipico prognatismo dello stile songye con bocca rettangolare. Arcata sopraccigliare, fronte e naso sono enfatizzati con placche di rame e chiodi di ottone. Sulla sommità della testa corno animale (spezzato) anch'esso adibito a ospitare sostanze.
Gli nkishi sono oggetti che hanno funzione protettiva e terapeutica; non sono destinati all'esposizione in pubblico ma a un uso più nascosto al fine di risolvere problemi personali o comunitari. Da questo punto di vista l'elemento più importante non sono le caratteristiche estetiche e visibili della scultura quanto la ""medicina"" (bishimba) che è nascosta nel suo ventre e nel corno piantato nella testa della statuina. Le sostanze animali,vegetali e minerali, opportunamente scelte e dosate dallo specialista rituale(nganga) consentono agli esseri umani di interagire con il mondo degli spiriti e di procurarsene i favori. Gli elementi aggiunti esternamente, come in questo caso le placche di rame e i chiodi di ottone, non sono parte della ""medicina"" ma accrescono l'effettto visivo della figura e quindi, in maniera indiretta, la sua influenza sul paziente. Le placche di rame in particolare si legano simbolicamente al fulmine e alla capacità dello nkishi di ridirezionare la forza che ha provocato danni (Verswijver et all. 1996). Le forme sono umane ma il corno allude a poteri che vengono dal mondo animale. |
