Description
English: Graph describing the radioactivity (gamma radioactivity, in Bq x kg -1 ) of red mud from the extraction of aluminum from bauxite mined in Hungary (radioactivity minimum and maximum).
In the process of extracting alumina, naturally occurring radionuclides in the bauxite are concentrated in the waste metal aluminum companies called "red mud" which can be slightly more radioactive than the ore.
These data come from the international INTAILRISK (Assessment of Environmental Risk of radioactively contaminé industrial tailings), financed by Europe, which also looked at the radioactivity of coal ash and slag (also more or Radioactive least according to their origins and have been stored in tanks as sludge) These measures have focused on four radionuclides: Ac-228 (natural isotope of the actinium is a product of the decay chain of uranium 235.
