Driscoll, sit in the cockpit of a McDonnell F-4J Phantom II of Fighter Squadron 96 (VF-96), in May 1972. The two officers were the first American fliers to qualify as aces solely as the result of Vietnam air action. VF-96 was assigned to Attack Carrier Air Wing 9 (CVW-9) aboard the aircraft carrier USS Constellation (CVA-64) for a deployment to Vietnam from 1 October 1971 to 1 July 1972. |
