Object history Altarpiece painted for the Franciscan nuns of the convent of Sant'Antonio, Perugia; sold with the three remaining panels from the predella ('cinque quadretti di divotione') to Queen Christina of Sweden in Rome, 1663; passed with other pictures of hers to Cardinal Decio Azzolino the Younger, her sole heir, and from him to his cousin and heir Marchese Pompeo Azzolino in 1689; sold to Livio Odescalchi, Duca di Bracciano, in 1692 ("Nota de Quadri della Regina Christina di Svetia", Archivio Storico Odescalchi, n.16, V); passed to prince Baldassare Odescalchi-Erba, Rome; sold to the Regent Orléans, Paris, 1721, and recorded in Orléans catalogue, 1786; brought to England with the Orléans collection, and probably exhibited 26 December 1798 at the Bryan Gallery; predella sold by private contract in three separate auction lots in 1800; London, Noel Desenfans (bef. 1804); London, Sir Francis Bourgeois, 1807-1811; Bourgeois Bequest, 1811.
