Description

The low hedges in front and trees that line the staircase to the Memorial Building give a strong sense of symmetry.

Abraham Lincoln Birthplace Memorial Landscape, Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Site. Symmetrical vegetation and features are laid out on an axis along the descending slope. Lombardy poplars once provided a formal border for the Pope landscape, echoing the columns of the Memorial Building entrance. They were later replaced with rows of red cedars.
