The church was first mentioned in 1290, however in the mid 19th century most of the existing building was in disrepair, and it was rebuilt. The church consists of a western tower, nave with north aisle, chancel, north vestry, and south porch. The base of the tower is mediaeval and the upper part was rebuilt in 1738 with an embattled parapet and pinnacles. There are six bells dating from the 18th century. The rest of the church was rebuilt in 1854 by Francis Niblett. The nave has a three bay north arcade with no clerestory. There is a Lady Chapel with altar at the east end. There is a plain chancel arch, and the whitewashed chancel has a 17th-century Communion rail. The single manual Nicholson organ is on the north side. The triple Lancet east window stained glass is by Heaton & Butler.. There are several monuments from the 17th to the 19th centuries. Extensive repairs to the roof were done in 2010.
