| Description |
English: A tanker pumps diesel to a licenced houseboat barge moored against the fairly short quay at Putney Embankment. The barge has a well-glazed, prominent forecastle (fo'c'sle) of a foredeck/poop deck. This gives it safe visibility for the sometimes rolling, swell-affected Tideway (upper estuary of the River Thames, the part through almost all of London) and out to the very end of the quite shallow estuary and beyond in fine weather. Nevertheless such a vessel is to be moored in gales and conditions of stream against tide, as the river is busy in London and safe havens tricky to find. |
