Summary

edit
Description
English: View westward from the TAFE pathway across the former railway corridor in Newcastle West, New South Wales, towards the sandstone walls that originally upheld the platforms of the former Honeysuckle railway station. In this view, the northernmost platform is prominent, with its elevation above what was formerly ground level clearly visible. A corner of what was the former stabling shed at the station is slightly visible to the left. Also notable is the footbridge across the old Wickham railway station, which can just be seen in the distant background to the left. The walls, which date back to 1857, have been mostly buried underneath the modern incarnation of the Newcastle railway line, since the station's demolition in 1936. The walls were unearthed during another demolition operation, this time of the Newcastle railway line in 2014–16. The site was subsequently designated an environmental protection zone, and the New South Wales Office of Environment and Heritage was notified.
