| Description |
English: Remains of the Newport and Shrewsbury Canal This short stretch near Oulton runs through a wooded cutting and is one of the few remains of the old Newport and Shrewsbury branch of the Shropshire Union that still holds water. The remainder has been largely filled in and the locks, including all 17 of the Newport Flight, destroyed. Here the towpath can still be seen from the old overbridge and one of the iron rubbing posts remains, grooved by years of friction with the tow ropes of passing narrow boats. |
