Description
English: The United States Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps performs a ceremonial drill for military and civic leaders, Soldiers, and the community April 23 celebrating the 174th year of the U.S. Army's presence in San Antonio as part of Army Day at the Alamo. The day also included ceremonial music by the 323rd Army Band, Fort Sam's Own, and remarks by Lt. Gen. Jeffrey Buchanan, the U. S. Army North (Fifth Army) commanding general. The event serves to promote awareness of the Army's presence in San Antonio, dubbed Military City USA, and the service's ties to the community as part of the 128th Fiesta San Antonio celebrated throughout the city over 10 days. Fiesta began in 1891 to honor the heroes of the Battles of the Alamo and San Jacinto. Today its more than 100 events showcase San Antonio's rich multicultural heritage and includes military and public parades, festivals, exhibits, athletic activities, music and dance, and food benefiting local nonprofit organizations and charitable causes.
