Summary edit

Description
English: This brooch is a gilt-metal replica of the Hunterston Brooch and it is believed that it was made around the time an elaborate dark age period brooch was discovered in SW Scotland.

Around 1830, an early-Christian silver and gold filigree brooch, made around 700 AD was discovered in Hunterston Ayrshire. The brooch was copied by numerous jewellery designers.

It is unclear which jeweller made this replica, but it is believed to date from around 1830

Today the original brooch is in the collection of National Museums of Scotland.
