The Prussian victors (Wilhelm I, Bismarck, Moltke the Elder) as Roman soldiers. Napoleon, to the Liberty figure: Tu, care voiesci sà fii dómn'a lumei, mantuesce te acum'a pre tine, ne mantue sì pre noi, cà apoi éra-si sà nu mai credemu in tine! ("You, who wish to become queen of this world, redeem yourself, redeem us too, because we were on the point of losing our faith in you!") Bazaine: Iérta-lu Dómne! cà-ci sì eu sum asiè de blastematu ca sì elu....!. ("Forgive him, Lord! for I am as damned as he is... !") Lberty: Imperate dracescu! in manele tale dau pe talharii acesti'a; judeca-i dupa faptele loru!! ("Lord of Hell! I deliver these thieves into your hands; judge them by their deeds!"). |
