Español: Retrato del Sr. Piñeiro. Óleo sobre lienzo. 100 x 80 cm. Ulpiano Checa. Firmado y fechado. En el ángulo superior izquierdo: "U. Checa. Buenos Aires. 1902". En la Argentina de principios de siglo se fraguaron las primeras colecciones de pintura, que los grandes industriales y terratenientes formaron adquiriendo obra en Europa. El Sr. Piñeiro tuvo especial interés en la obra de pintores españoles y, concretamente, en la obra de Checa, del que fue su marchante. A su muerte donó su colección al incipiente Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes de Buenos Aires. Legó el resto de su fortuna para la construcción de un hospital en la ciudad bonaerense, que aun hoy existe. Checa, además de este retrato, le dedicó otras obras, como la que se expone en la sala de España de este Museo, "Manola", con la dedicatoria "A mi amigo. F.R. Piñeiro. París 1889. U. Checa" |
