Transcripción de la ficha: "Vinculado con el taller de Miguel Cabrera, José de Alcibar destacó por la dulzura de sus rostros, la precisión de su trazo y la nitidez en su manejo del color. Progresivamente dejó la exuberancia barroca para acercarse a la mesura del Neoclasicismo. Fue maestro fundador de la Real Academia de las Tres Nobles Artes de San Carlos.

Sor María Manuela Margarita falleció apenas unos días después de tomar el hábito capuchino, La aspereza del sayal-trabajado con gran detalle- y la sobriedad del entorno dan cuenta de la austeridad y rigidez de esta regla conventual. Los retratos de monjas fueron populares en Nueva España, ya que las familias los conservaban como recuerdo de sus hijas cuando entraban en clausura." (Símbolo y Reino, 2023)
