Castillo de Chapultepec, INAH Transcripción de la ficha: "Este retrato del virrey interino Martín de Mayorga (gob. 1779-1783) como protector de las artes, supone una renovación del género y del gusto acorde con la Ilustración. Atribuido al pintor catalán Francisco Clapera, hizo pendant en los salones de la Academia con el de José de Gálvez (gob. 1783-1884). Sobre la mesa, descansan el bastón de mando y los protocolos fundacionales de la institución, mientras ofrece una medalla conmemorativa a tres putti que personifican las nobles artes. Entre planos, escuadra y cartapacios, estos se ejercitan en el uso del compás (la geometria) y disertan sobre un busto clásico (el dibujo). persiguiendo el bello ideal descrito por Anton Raphael Mengs. En el fondo, el cortinaje deja ver el Valle de México." (Símbolo y Reino, 2023) |
