PLATE No. 50.
REVERBERATORY ROASTING FURNACE.
The cut here shown, Plate No. 50, represents the well known form of a Reverberatory Roasting Furnace, consisting of a long hearth, paved andarched with fire brick on all sides. The ore is fed through a hopper at the upper end, and is gradually worked forward by means of hoes, rakes and rabblers, until it reaches the lower discharge doors. For the convenience of the operator the working doors are provided with rollers, making it possible for him to reach over a large distance with his hoe. For this reason no two doors are placed opposite each other, and the hearth usually divided into several floors, with an inclination towards the fire end. We furnish all the necessary iron work for any size of furnace, including working and discharge doors, frames and counter weights, chains, pulleys, brackets, grate bars and bearers, tie rods, also T rails, if old rails cannot be obtained at the place of erection.
