Summary edit

Description
English: Effect of decreasing Reynolds Number on an airfoil at a constant angle of attack. Flow is from left to right.

The decreasing Reynolds number translates into:

  • decreasing speed
  • decreasing airfoil size (specifically, airfoil chord)
  • decreasing density
  • increasing viscosity

or any combination of the above. If the airfoil is kept at constant angle of attack the point of transition from laminar to turbulent boundary layer moves further aft. Laminar boundary layer causes less drag but is also more prone to separation.
