Rhizocarpon grande (Flörke ex Flotow) Arnold, 1871

Photograph of two dark muriform spores from Rhizocarpon grande taken through a compound microscope, x1000.   (Spores measured 39 x 15 microns, and 45 x 15 microns)

This herbarium specimen of R. grande was growing on sandstone rock along the trail up Black Mountain, just S of Tunk Lake, NE of Ellsworth, in Hancock County, Maine, USA (44o35' N,   68o06' W,   elevation 200 meters).

Collected and identified by E.C. Uebel (No. U-526, 11 Jul 2005).
