Summary edit
DescriptionRijksmuseum van Oudheden, Romeinse schatten uit Limburg, ijzeren schaar en schrijfstift, grafgiften sarcofaag van Simpelveld.JPG |
English: Scissors and writing tool made of iron, 4th quarter 2nd century AD, found in 1930 inside the Sarcofaag van Simpelveld, a sculpted Roman sarcophagus discovered by a farmer in Simpelveld, South Limburg, the Netherlands, near a site where a few years later an ancient Roman villa was excavated. The sarcophagus contained the ashes of a wealthy lady, as well as a number of grave goods made of gold, silver, iron, glas and earthenware. The sarcophagus and its contents are now in the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden (RMO) in Leiden. This photo was made during the temporary exhibition Topstukken van het Rijksmuseum van Oudheden in the Limburgs Museum in Venlo, while the Rijksmuseum was closed for renovations. |
