Description
English: Tropical Storm Rina formed Sunday evening October 23, 2011, the 17th named storm of the 2011 Atlantic Hurricane Season. The NOAA National Hurricane Center is predicting that Rina could become a hurricane by Thursday. Tomorrow, October 25, is the 90th anniversary of the 1921 Tarpon Springs Hurricane, which formed in the same general area of the Caribbean as Rina. The 1921 hurricane struck Florida near Tarpon Springs as a category 3 storm with a storm surge near 11 feet, wiping out sea walls, inundating barrier islands and decimating the area's citrus crop.
