Description
Português: A retificação do Rio Carangola foi uma grande obra de macrodrenagem realizada durante o Governo Alaor Braz da Fonseca, com recursos obtidos pelo prefeito junto ao Ministério do Interior, no Governo João Figueiredo. A a execução ficou sob a responsabilidade da extinta SERLA (Fundação Superintendência Estadual de Rios e Lagoas).

A retificação do rio teve como objetivo ampliar a vazão do rio em períodos de enchentes, mitigando os impactos das inundações sobre a cidade.

Na enchente de 1979, a última antes da obra de retificação, a cidade chegou a ficar 15 dias inundada.
