Summary

edit
Description Armorial of Risdon of Winscott, St Giles in the Wood parish, Devon: Sable, three bird bolts palewise argent. Source: Tristram Risdon's Notebook. This design is shown as an impalement on the effigy monument of Tristram Risdon's neighbour and brother-in-law Thomas Chafe (d.1648) of Dodscott, in the Church of St Giles in the Wood, but the tinctures are reversed, possibly as a result of restoration paintwork, the monument has recently been totally re-painted. Hoskins W.G. (1954) wrote of the monument "now pushed into the tower and dirty and neglected", thus the original paint on the shields is likely to have disappeared.
