English: River Gowy near Cotton Edmunds Farm. View on bearing 155 deg upstream and across the River Gowy towards the mediaeval packhorse bridges (out os sight behind the poplars in the distance, SJ4765. The photo was taken from the Cotton Edmunds Farm DEFRA Conservation Walk running north and west from Hockenhull Platts to Cotton Lane. The Gowy flood plain is low (15-20m altitude), wide and flat at this point and subject to winter flooding. Sheep farming predominates on the heavy soil rather than the dairy farming more typical of the Cheshire Plain. Cotton Farm is just visible in the distance beyond Platts Lane. |
