River Lavant distributaries reunite after the Abel Smith Way culverts in Chichester

Summary

edit
Description
English: Two distributaries of the River Lavant winterbourne re-unite after passing under Abel Smith Way at the side of the roundabout with the A285 and Church Road. The culvet to the left has a significant drop from one side to the other. The other which runs along the A285 is essentially flat. Abel Smith Way and the roundabout and culverts were built just over a year before this picture to Support a new build supermarket that opened here in March 2020. Prior to this culvert arragement the flow from the westerly distributary used to simply sort of cascade over over a noticable flow into the river running alongside the A285. Often dry, they could be quite vigorous when flowing. At the time I visited the location there was access down through concrete steps through a gate that was unlocked and in the open position with no signage. At the bottom of the steps there was perhaps a 2 foot drop to the river bed. No caution signs were visitble.
