when i first met roger he was a complete geek wannabe. but at least he had an undiminished passion and love for movies and his cafe and his contributions to the community. over the years i knew him and watched him, he turned into a profoundly hopeless alcoholic. one christmas, at a party, he was a complete bitch. i sat there with my partner at the time, who was roger's employee, and listened to him trashing everyone he worked with and for and then he started in on us. clearly he was mixing his medz with way too much alcohol, but that didn't stop me from telling him to shut the fuck up. apparently not enough people did at the time. i don't know what's happened to him since, but my experiences with him cemented the idea that fame and notoriety are horrible fates to deal with as an artist. i prefer to remember him as the pimple-faced dweeb who was so happy to run his sunny little cafe and smiled at everyone and tried to learn their names. but i guess that was all fake anyways... you can wear prada, but it won't make you prouder |
