| 容桂直街简史石碑上的文字 | 容桂直街简史 容桂直街位于容奇二阜涌（今工业路）东岸边。在清代嘉庆甲子年（1804年）香山（今中山市）东海十六沙，沙田盗匪滋扰，耕者失业，业戸隶属容桂两乡籍者较多，桂洲胡和庵进士倡议按亩抽费，设立护沙船勇，此乃创办容桂公约之始。 清代咸丰初年，护沙巡船曾一度散失，沙田土贼扰乱，乡绅和业戸为了保护沙田收割，于咸丰六年（1856年）报请县署批准，复设公约并改名容桂公所，继续执行护沙任务。公所设立后，容奇圩头日趋兴旺。至同治及光绪初年（1862－1875年间）容桂直接民居渐多，街道形成，初称高街。清末民初众称容桂公所直街，现名容桂直街，是容奇著名古老街巷之一。 容奇镇卫红街道办事处立 |
