| Description |
English: Rose & Rummer pub (site of) Paradise Street, Rotherhithe, London, SE16 This pub lasted from 1757 until 1869 at the junction with Prospect Street, where the tree can be seen. I have also read this described as 'Rose & Runner' but I favour the main title (rummer being a bowl type glass for rum). After it's demise a mission hall was built and then in 1953 that also disappeared and the Pynfolds Estate was built. To its left, 50 yards away, was an alley named Staples Rents and a few more yards further on stood the 'Red Lion' pub (1792 - 1950's). The estate was built upon half of Prospect Street, the remaining section is across Jamaica Road that can be seen under the arch on the right. |
