Description

About to exit the old walled town via a southeastern gate. The clock and the watchtower stand on top of the gate.

While I found the medieval ambiance charming, I felt that Rothenburg had too much of a theme park feel and not enough of a lived-in feel. There are other medieval time capsule towns in Europe that feel much more lived in, including the Belgian canal town of Brugge which had been my 1998 destination.
