Description

The Air & Space Show will feature a flight performance of the Royal Air Force (RAF) DH-100 Vampire, one of the military jet aircraft. The de Havilland DH-100 Vampire is a British jet fighter developed during World War II. The RAF Vampire was manufactured by de Havilland and developed to harness the newly developed jet engine.

The RAF Vampire entered service with the Royal Air Force in 1945. It was the second jet fighter operated by the Royal Air Force and the first to be powered by a single jet engine. The RAF used the Vampire as a front-line fighter until 1953, when it was given secondary roles such as pilot training. It was retired by the RAF in 1966 and replaced by the Hawker Hunter. The RAF Vampire achieved several aviation firsts and records, including being the first jet aircraft to cross the Atlantic Ocean.

Almost 3,300 Vampires were manufactured, a quarter of them flown by air forces in other countries. The Royal Navy’s first jet fighter was the Sea Vampire, a naval variant that was operated from its aircraft carriers.
