Summary
editDescriptionRoyal banner at half-mast over Holyroodhouse.jpg |
English: The Scots royal banner (or royal standard, the mediaeval flag that usually flies over the historic royal residences in Scotland while the monarch is not at home) flying at half-mast over the Palace of Holyrood, Edinburgh, on 9 September 2022, the day after the British queen Elizabeth II died at Balmoral Castle. This ancient banner remained at half-mast when the royal coffin was brought to Holyrood and stayed overnight in the palace; the present-day royal banner was raised when Charles III (returning to Scotland from his proclamation ceremony at St James's Palace in London) arrived at Holyroodhouse to accept the keys of Edinburgh and to accompany his mother's coffin to its vigil in St Giles. |
