Inscribed in Latin: Rudolfus quartus dei gratia archydux austri(a)e stiri(a)e et karinthi(a)e dominus carniole marchi(a)e ac Portus Naonis comes in habspurg ferretis et kiburg marcio burgoni(a)e ac lantgravius alsaci(a)e ("Rudolf the fourth by the grace of God Archduke of Austria, Stiria and Carinthia, lord of the w:March of Carniola and of w:Pordenone, Count in Habsburg, Ferrette and Kyburg in the March of Burgundy and Landgrave of Alsace"). w:Pordenone is a city in the Italian region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia. The name comes from Latin Portus Naonis, meaning "port on the Noncello River". In 1278, after having been administered by several feudatories, the city was handed over to the Habsburg family, forming an Austrian enclave within the territory of the Patriarchal State of Friuli. In the 14th century, Pordenone grew substantially due to the flourishing river trades, gaining the status of city in December 1314. In 1508, after the failed invasion of the Republic of Venice by Emperor Maximilian, the city was seized by Venice. The County of Ferrette (or Pfirt) was a feudal jurisdiction in Alsace in the Middle Ages and the early modern period. It roughly corresponds with the Sundgau and comprised the lordships of Ferrette (Pfirt), Altkirch, Thann, Belfort, Rougemont and others. These territories were not contiguous, but formed a patchwork of jurisdictions under the Holy Roman Empire. The County of Ferrette emerged in the twelfth century alongside the County of Montbéliard as a division of the pagus of Elsgau, traditionally regarded as the southernmost pagus of Alsace. In the late Middle Ages, the County of Ferrette was the most westerly Habsburg possession and a part of Further Austria. It bordered the French Duchy of Burgundy The w:Windic March (German: Windische Mark; also known as Wendish March) was a medieval frontier march of the Holy Roman Empire, roughly corresponding to the Lower Carniola (Slovene: Dolenjska) region in present-day Slovenia.
