Description |
English: Athletes, usually identified as runners. Français : Éphèbes coureurs. Ces sculptures n’ont pas de répliques connues : elles ont donc été commanditées par un propriétaire, probablement Pison - consul de Rome, sa fille ayant été la dernière épouse de César - pour le décor du péristyle rectangulaire, sud-ouest, côté parc, de sa villa, avec un autre bronze, Hermès assis et plus loin : les cinq péplophores (galerie sud-est), autour du bassin: des piliers hermaïques avec des têtes en marbre. Ces bronzes étaient soigneusement entretenus sans aucune oxydation, protégés par un traitement de «substances bitumineuses ou d’huile», donc semblables à de l’or.
