DescriptionRunning Bull - Yankton Sioux Tribe South Dakota.jpg |
English: This is a copy of a photo which was originally taken in 1858 to commemorate the seventeen delegates from the Yankton Sioux Tribe of South Dakota signing The Peace Treaty of 1858 (Chief Struck by the Ree). Running Bull's father had been a headman. His name was Zuyesa, which means warrior. When Chief Struck by the Ree passed away, in 1888, Chief Running Bull succeeded him. To be chief was considered an honorary title, achieved by unanimous vote of the council of headmen. |
