English: Verso caption: "Rassler Sandor Szabo and Pianist Carmen Cavallaro STAGE AN UNSCHEDULED AND 'GRIPPING' EXHIBITION During Visit to Rendezvous As Entertainers in 1956". In the early years of the Fur Rendezvous Festival, top-flight talent of various sorts was brought to Anchorage to perform during the festival. Szabó made his initial headlining appearance during this event. Professional wrestling would remain a top attraction for the next six or seven years, until the accidental death of top local booster William Strandberg, at which point other festival organizers lost interest in the events. This photo's location is not revealed, but it was most likely the lobby of the Westward Hotel. |
