English: Figure 80 of On the Moon with Apollo 16: A Guidebook to the Descartes Region (NASA publication N72-19879, April 1972, by Dr. Gene Simmons).
Astronauts John Young and Charlie Duke. They are shown here on a geology training trip to Taos, New Mexico. Note the hand tools and the microphones. Their observations are recorded on tape recorders and later analyzed to improve their powers or observation and techniques of reporting. The rocks in the background are basalts.
